PC 2D platformer demo to be launched on August 20.
With the likes of Limbo, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, and Jamestown, it seems 2D gaming is undergoing somewhat of a resurgence. Developers D-Pad Studios have now entered the fray, recently announcing a new PC title called Owlboy which is slated for a 2011 release. A demo of the game will be up on August 20.
Owlboy is a 2D platformer with a 2D sprite-based art style. Players control Owlboy as he explores the Floating Continent, navigate through deadly pitfalls and traps, and make use of his ability to fly and carry NPCs to assist him. The game is billed as a “vertical platformer” with influences from Mario and Zelda affecting its game design.
Stay tuned for a preview of the demo at GameSpot.
