“The American” and “Machete”: Box Office Battle

Making for an interesting face-off at the box office, “Machete” and “The American” are battling to top earnings over the holiday weekend.

“The American” got a jump-start by opening up on Wednesday (September 1) which has allowed the led project to sit in the No. 1 position with $7 million.

Meanwhile, and “Machete” actually had the best day on Friday, garnering an estimated $3.9 million as compared to $3.8 million for “The American”.

Also being released this weekend was Drew Barrymore and Justin Long’s romantic comedy “Going the Distance” – which came in fifth on Friday with $2.3 million.
